Novak Djokovic (34 de ani) a reușit o victorie importantă în fața justiției, dar se confruntă cu alte probleme în momentul de față. Ar fi făcut declarații false la intrarea în Australia.
Totuși, chiar dacă ieri a fost eliberat, starul sârb este încă în pericol și viza poate fi anulată din nou de ministrul Imigrației din Australia.
Djokovic, deţinătorul recordului de titluri cucerite la Australia Open (nouă) şi campionul en titre, a fost reţinut pe aeroportul din Melbourne miercuri seara, iar viza sa de intrare, susţinută de o scutire medicală de la cerinţele de vaccinare impuse de autorităţile de la antipozi, a fost revocată.
The Age, o publicație renumită de la Antipozi, cât și ziarul britanic The Guardian anunță că Djokovic a suspectat că a mințit în formularul de intrare în Australia. În acea declarație, sârbul a bifat că nu a călătorit cu 14 zile înainte de sosirea la Melbourne, lucru care ar fi fals.
Sârbul s-ar fi aflat la Belgrad în perioada în care susține că a avut COVID-19, acolo petrecându-și și Crăciunul. Ulterior, ar fi zburat în Spania, scrie Eurosport.
O astfel de minciună în formularul completat la sosirea în Australia „e o serioasă ofensă. Oricine completează cu bună știință greșit e pasibil de o pedeapsă civilă pentru fals în declarații și poate sta după gratii până la 12 luni”, după cum se arată în regulile de intrare în Australia.

Documentul completat de sârb când a intrat în Australia aminteşte că „oferirea de informaţii incorecte guvernului australian este o infracţiune gravă”, care poate duce chiar la „până la 12 luni de închisoare”.

„Sunt mulţumit şi recunoscător că judecătorul a întors anularea vizei. În ciuda a tot ceea ce s-a întâmplat, vreau să rămân şi să încerc să concurez la Australian Open. Rămân concentrat pe asta. Am zburat aici pentru a juca la unul dintre cele mai importante evenimente pe care le avem în faţa fanilor minunaţi”, a declarat el, într-o postare pe Twitter.
„Deocamdată nu pot spune mai multe, dar VĂ MULŢUMESC tuturor pentru că sunteţi alături de mine prin toate acestea şi mă încurajaţi să rămân puternic”, a adăugat el, într-o nouă postare.
